Design Build RFD Competition as Executive Architect

Davy Architecture was retained by the city of Vista to re-design a new stage house for the Moonlight Amphitheater.  The 11,000 SF structure includes a stage and orchestra pit, workshop, rehearsal room, storage, and dressing rooms.  We conducted several Value Design workshops with City officials, the Parks and Community Services Department, theater staff, theatrical consultants, and a builder/cost estimator, to review potential value-based designs.  Options such as using electronic rigging in lieu of conventional rigging to reduce the structure, height, and volume of the fly loft, eliminating a storage basement, and re-configuring the backstage elements, were studied in an effort to reduce the total construction cost of the project.  We also incorporated new audio visual and theatrical systems, previously not a part of the program, into the design.  The city integrated the materials we produced through the re-design exercise, into a bridging document package that was used in a design/build competition.
