Camp Cuyamaca offers the sixth grade school children of San Diego County an outdoor environmental education on a 19-acre campus in the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.  Commissioned by the County Office of Education’s Outdoor Education branch. to expand the camp’s capacity by 50%, Davy Architecture designed two dormitory buildings and a lodge to LEED standard.  The project includes renovation of existing dorms, craft buildings, dining hall, and infirmary; it also integrates the path of travel throughout the Camp to meet ADA accessibility requirements.

Each dormitory sleeps 72 children, includes four dens, a central community room, and counselor’s quarters.  The lodge accommodates two assemblies of 150 students each.  All new buildings are designed with abundant day-lighting, energy efficient direct/indirect lighting and heating systems, and are built with structural insulated panels (SIPs) for maximum thermal performance.
